Welcome. I am so glad you are here.
I'm Lauren. I have been obsessed with all things education since I read Jonathan Kozol's Savage Inequalities in Middle School. I majored in Elementary and Special Education at Vanderbilt University, and I have tutored and taught in Nashville, Tennessee, Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas.
I have spent the last few years out of the classroom at home with my three young children. As I send my own children off to school, I do so with an advantage. I have an understanding of schools and teachers that comes from having been on the inside, and keeping a keen eye on education research, policy and news.
My goal is to help parents navigate the school years, understand more about teaching and learning, and connect parents and other concerned citizens to important education research and news.
I may be on the sidelines of my teaching career, but my position affords me the independence most teachers do not have. There is plenty that teachers don't say because they can't. I can.
To make my content relevant, I am hoping that you will ask me questions. Want to know why your child's school is doing something? Do you want advice about your struggling learner? Wondering what a teacher thinks about education in the news? Do you want to know the difference between 504 and Special Ed? Ask the Teacher, please.
